WITH SIX MONTHS OF EPISODES ALREADY TAPED, "DAYS OF OUR LIVES" SHUTS DOWN PRODUCTION FOR RECORD FIVE-WEEK HIATUS... With a recent change in the head writing team, as well as now being over six months ahead in taping episodes, "Days of Our Lives" will be shutting down production for the next five weeks, the longest amount of time that "Days" has been dark in its 50-year history. Due to the upcoming two-week Summer Olympics hiatus in August, "Days" was quickly getting further ahead in its taping schedule, and already taping episodes for late August. The previous longest shutdown in "Days" production was for four weeks in June-July 2014. |

Jason, do you know in general how many scenes each show has had from about December-this week, and then specifically how many there were today? |

That's not enough. -_- They really need to go back to 3-month ahead (or less). |

They shouldn't have gotten that far ahead in the first place. |

Perhaps, when they return, they may slow down the filming schedule??? OR, possibly, take another long hiatus in a month or two (or 3)..?? |

Is the cast and crew on paid leave during this hiatus? |

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Take 5 weeks off, return for a week or two of Higley's nonsense, another 5-6 weeks off, a week back in the studio... It would not only burn her |

The long hiatus might be a good thing for actors because it will allow them to audition for guest roles. Some of them have done no other projects for years. And with soaps being the situation they are in, they need to have as many projects on their resumes as possible. |

Personally, I think NBC can & should capitalize on this as well and do some cross-overs with actors/actresses from Days on to the primetime shows & vice-versa. Edited by No1_ILoveLucyFan, Feb 27 2016, 02:02 PM.

All 3 networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) used to do that back in the 90s and even a bit at the beginning of the new century. I remember Kevin James' character having a dream he was on Y&R in an episode of King of Queens, the entire cast of Y&R guest-starring in an episode of Victoria Rowell's show Diagnosis Murder, and a bunch of other stuff. Days' stars also used to appear on NBC sitcoms and dramas. And let's not forget how much promotion Days got on Friends, both through the character of Joey being an actor on Days and through Jennifer Aniston being the daughter of one of the show's leading men. Today, the networks don't seem to bother. On ABC and CBS, soap stars appear only on daytime talk shows, whereas NBC's soap actors don't even get to do that. |
